Used to drive me crazy at EDS, all the so-called MCSE experts whose answer for everything was wipe and reinstall.

Well, yes. Although, it’s a sad and self-deprecating look at my fellow Windows admins who, however skilled they are, know that the closed nature of Windows sometimes makes solving a problem impossible without weeks of phone tag with MSFT support and even then you’ll still likely just get a undocumented, private hotfix to run on the server.
Now for client PCs, I think it’s a sign of an advanced IT shop if the PC is reformatted for 90% of problems. But that’s a totally different blog post. =)
